This page provides information on how to get from St Albans to St Albans Hospital, Watford General and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

 

St Albans Hospital 

St Albans City Hospital is situated on Waverley Road, a 15 – 20 minute walk from St Albans City Centre. Although it is possible to walk to the Hospital from the City Centre, taking a bus may be preferable.

St Albans City Centre (St Peters Street) – St Albans Hospital

  • From St Albans City Centre, take the Arriva 301 to St Albans Hospital
  • From St Albans City Centre, take the Uno 653 to St Albans Hospital

Both railway stations that serve St Albans are some distance from St Albans Hospital. Therefore if your journey to St Albans Hospital involves rail travel, to continue your journey from the station a bus may be preferable to walking.

St Albans City Rail Station – St Albans Hospital

  • From St Albans City Railway Station, take the Arriva 301 to St Albans Hospital
  • From St Albans City Railway Station, take the Uno 653 to St Albans Hospital

St Albans Abbey Line – St Albans Hospital

The other rail station that serves St Albans is the St Albans Abbey on the Abbey Flyer line, which serves stations from Watford Junction. The St Albans Abbey station is located at the bottom of Holywell Hill.

For buses, come out of the station onto Holywell Hill, cross over the road and turn right up the hill towards the town. A bus stop is situated a short distance away from which you can get a number of buses up the hill to St Albans City Centre (St Peters Street) where you can then change to one of the bus services which goes to the Hospital. Services which will take you up Holywell Hill include Redline S4 and S5, Arriva 321, and Uno S8 and 652. .

Alternatively walk 10 minutes up Holywell Hill and take one of the aforementioned services to the Hospital from the City Centre.

 

Watford Hospital 

Watford General Hospital is located on Vicarage Road. The options on how to get to the hospital using a bus are listed below.

St Albans – Watford Hospital

  • From St Albans City Centre (St Peters Street), take the UNO 602 towards Watford to Watford High Street (on Kings Street)
  • From St Albans City Centre (St Peters Street), take the Arriva 321 towards Watford to Watford Junction & High Street.

On arrival in Watford High Street then change to one of the below services which will take you directly to the Hospital.

Walking from Watford Town Centre (High Street) will take approximately 15 minutes.

Watford High Street – Watford Hospital

  • From Watford High Street, take the Arriva 10 to Watford General Hospital
  • From Watford High Street, take the Arriva 324 to Watford General Hospital
  • From Watford High Street, take the Arriva 320 to Watford General Hospital

Watford Junction – Watford Hospital

You can travel to Watford Junction Rail Station from St Albans using the St Albans Abbey Flyer rail station which is located at the bottom of Holywell Hill. For the Abbey flyer timetable please click here. Then from Watford Junction Rail Station, use either of the below services to go direct to Watford General Hospital.

  • From Watford Junction Rail Station, take the Arriva 10 to Watford General Hospital
  • From Watford Junction Rail Station, take the Arriva 320 to Watford General Hospital
  • From Watford Junction Rail Station, take the Arriva 324 to Watford General Hospital

 

Hemel Hempstead Hospital 

Hemel Hempstead Hospital is situated on Hillfield Road in Hemel Hempstead town center, minutes from the main bus station.

St Albans City Centre (St Peters Street) – Hemel Hempstead Hospital

  • From St Albans Town Centre (St Peters Street), take the Arriva 300 and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital
  • From St Albans Town Centre (St Peters Street), take the Arriva 301 and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital

If your journey to Hemel Hempstead Hospital involves rail travel, then your journey from the railway station might be preferable by bus, as the railway station is some distance from the Hospital. The Hospital is about a 25 minute walk from Hemel Hempstead railway station.

Buses travel quite frequently from Hemel Hempstead Railway Station to Hemel Hempstead Town Centre (on Marlowes) from which the Hospital is only a few minutes’ walk away. You can catch buses towards the direction of Hemel Hempstead Town Centre if you cross over the main road in front of the station, using the pedestrian crossing and wait at the stop almost opposite the station.

Hemel Hempstead Railway Station – Hemel Hempstead Town Centre (on Marlowes)

  • From Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, take the Arriva 2 to Marlowes, and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital (peak only)
  • From Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, take the Arriva 4 to Marlowes, and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital
  • From Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, take the Arriva 353 to Marlowes, and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital
  • From Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, take the Arriva 500 to Marlowes, and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital
  • From Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, take the Little Jims 502 to Marlowes, and then walk 5 minutes to Hemel Hempstead Hospital
